AUSTRALIA
Atlanta, Georgia - Atlanta Airport An absolutely beautiful hotel with traditional southern architecture. You are greeted at the door by a friendly porter complete with black tails and white gloves who takes your bags away on an old fashioned brass trolley (yeah, it sounds stuffy but it’s not, it’s just really classy and cool). We arrived at around 8am expecting to be told the rooms were not ready yet but instead were greeted with an upgrade to a Club Level suite which is a separate floor of suites with their own security access and club room with hor dorves and pre dinner drinks. Our room overlooked the Atlanta airport but you didn’t hear a thing as it was completely sound proof (I love airports so this was heaven for me!). The indoor pool and spa were beautiful and the service was excellent, there were even TV’s in the bathroom just incase you don’t want to miss any of your favourite show. They run a free shuttle between the airport and neighboring suburbs. Matt had his CST certification course nearby and was driven there every morning and driven back every night on the shuttle – even though it was not on the standard route. The buffet breakfast was fantastic complete the southern tradition of grits and biscuits and gravy – for all Aussies reading this … no their biscuits are not the arnotts kind, but are more like our scones served with a gravy sauce I know it sounds terrible but its actually really delicious – matt had many serves each morning… although as I was writing that sentence I realized that anyone who knows Matt knows he will eat many serves of just about anything as long as it is tasty! Jude Oahu, Hawaiian Islands We visited Hawaii on our way through to the mainland US. The Waikiki Parc Hotel was beautiful. Waikiki is definitely a place where the hotels don’t necessarily look like their picture on the internet but this was the exception. As we drove through the city I was getting a little worried as we passed all the hotels I had researched and was glad I didn’t pick them. We had a lovely room overlooking the mountains and with a quick stroll maybe at most 200m) along a walking path we were at the beach. The buffet was wonderful – so many choices and great quality (we are very fussy with our food!) On our way back to Australia we had a night in Waikiki and decided to stay there again. This time we were greeted with an upgrade to a beach view suite with some personalized chocolates waiting in our room. Definately a great place to stay if your ever in Waikiki
Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia
The grounds are magnificent – the hotel is set on a large block filled with tropical fauna and flora surrounding a large salt water lagoon. Just the other side of the resort is the beach so you can hear the waves as you wake up.The buffet breakfast was lovely. We spent the days in the conference and as soon as 5pm hit we were out enjoying the games the resort staff had organized. We had beach volleyball competitions, went sailing on the lagoon, played golf and went on treasure hunts. The best thing about all that – most of the activities are free for everyone including sailing! The rooms are beautiful and are set among the tropical greenery and winding paths and your taken to your room by golf cart!
Hobart, Tasmania Australia Doherty Hadley’s in Hobart was a great place to stay, it’s one of the oldest hotels you’ll find in Australia but don’t let that fool you into thinking it must be a dump, nothing could be further from the truth. The lobby is beautiful, as are the dining rooms, the room we stayed was very nice and while it was pretty small we enjoyed the old school feel of it as it suited the fact that Hobart is a very historical sort of place. Our room was nice, it had an old world feel but it still had a nice new remote control tv and DVD player (the hotel front desk had a range of DVD’s which you could borrow free of charge). The staff were all nice and the hotel also featured a “high tea” between 2-4pm which was extremely popular even amongst those who not residing at Hadley’s. During July they featured a chocolate High Tea so Jude made sure we got down to the dining room for one of them before we left, we weren’t disappointed. The Hadley’s was in a great location which allowed us to get everywhere in Hobart on foot. We were only about a 5 minute walk from the Salamanca markets and the same goes for the docks.
