Indian
Place - hobart
Hobart (Corner of Collins St and Harrington St) We walked past here during the day and made a mental note to get back there at some stage on our trip. We walked around to the restaurant the second night we were in Hobart and I got some Butter Chicken and Lamb Korma (both were great). Matt had already got his meal down the road at a Pizza and Pasta place as he figured he’d be able to have the best of both worlds by stealing some of whatever I got at the Indian place. There were a lot of locals dining in which is normally a good sign of good food. For $10.00 I got a take away container filled to the top with my two curries and rice. The meat was great quality and the flavours were beautiful! Definitely worth the trip down Collins street if your in Hobart! Jude
Houseboat serving fish on the wharf – Hobart There is a huge emphasis on fresh food around Tasmania especially seafood. So I couldn’t leave without having tried some famous Tasmanian Scallops! Matt isn’t keen on seafood so I was alone in my quest to find some delicious fresh scallops along the wharf. I didn’t have to go far to find some as most days some houseboat looking vessels come into the wharf with their fresh catches of the day. They then cook it up for you while you wait and if you’re lucky you may even catch a glimpse of some seals playing in the water nearby. We headed down to Flippers (one of the houseboats) and I ordered a “bag of treasures”, it was delicious. For about $6.00 I got three prawns of different flavours, a scallop, a crab stick and some fish. All cooked to perfection! If you find yourself wondering along the wharf in Hobart you MUST head to Flippers and try some fresh seafood. Jude
Murray St - Hobart Mmmmmm, this place made the best sausage rolls I’ve ever bought anywhere. The food is all made on site and the freshness is obvious from the first bite. MJ’s makes a range of other meals and their coffee was absolutely awesome. They even do an all day breakfast which is great because it’s nice to know you can a good serve of bacon and eggs at any time of the day. Why do so many other places stop doing breakfast after 11am, I mean surely I’m not the only one who likes having a serve of bacon and eggs in the late afternoon, how hard can it be? Anyhow, MJ’s obviously impressed me, the food was great and the staff were very nice. Doesn’t get much better than that! Matt
Midtown - Los Angeles This place rocks! They have a few locations but the one we ate at was in Midtown. The food was absolutely terrific, I know chicken and waffles may sound like a weird combination but don’t knock it till you’ve tried it. Our good friend Brian took us down to Roscoe’s for lunch and he was pretty cocky about how good a choice he’d made, I can easily say it lived up to the hype. Brian assured us that we’d love the food and he was right, we each had a serve of fired chicken and waffles and then we got a bunch of other dishes to accompany the meal. Grits, collared greens, corn bread, you name it, it was on our table. Every single thing we ate at Roscoe’s was great and the people were friendly too. We found that great service is pretty much a given in the USA, obviously their tipping structure would have a lot to with that but I also felt that the people at Roscoes were just genuinely cool folks who were happy to smile and make you feel comfortable. As I said earlier, there are a few locations for Roscoes in L.A. so check one out next time you’re there. Matt
